Visma Connect to participate in Odyssey Momentum 2020

Odyssey Momentum

The fourth edition of the Odyssey Hackathon was scheduled to take place on April 3-5, 2020 in Groningen, the Netherlands. The event has been rescheduled and its organizers have adopted a virtual format in light of the COVID-19 outbreak. Last year, the event saw 100 teams and 1,500 total participants collaborating in one venue.
This year, the Odyssey Hackathon has given way to Odyssey Momentum, a new virtual event where participants can fully embrace the potential of the internet. Momentum will take place on November 13-15, 2020.

Visma Connect’s Authorization Register

Visma Connect is excited to participate in the event. Six of our team members will join and introduce fellow attendees to our Authorization Register. The challenge that we are participating in is Self-Sovereign Indentity in Action.

Visma Connect is responsible for maintaining an Authorization Register for iShare. iShare is a uniform set of agreements or frameworks that enables organizations in the logistics industry to give each other access to their data. Current implementations of this system consist of one or multiple central Authorization Registers. We have conducted research to process these authorizations in a decentralized way using an SSI solution like Sovrin, where users are in control and don’t have to rely on a central register. We focus heavily on interoperability, so it doesn’t matter which SSI solution is used by the user.

The goal of the decentralized Authorization Register is to win the trust of other parties by giving them more control over who has access to their data. In doing so, we want to advance data sharing in the logistics sector and eventually in other sectors, such as healthcare.

While data sharing is key for a connected society, it’s still quite cumbersome to share critical information in a secure way. Too often people resort to sharing their credentials and passwords. Our solution minimizes the amount of user data that needs to be stored by third parties, and makes authorization easier, faster and more secure.
